Sapatu Walks 18 Days to Thank President Hichilema

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says Government will continue working hard to ensure that free education benefits the most vulnerable in society.

President HICHILEMA says free education not only cushions families from the cost of education, but also ensures that citizens have access to education, which is an equaliser.

President HICHILEMA said this at Community House in Lusaka today when he met MAGGY SAPATU, a 52-year-old woman from Mwinilunga who walked for 18 days to Lusaka to appreciate him for his dedication to delivering development to the people.

President HICHILEMA said he is motivated to work even harder after learning that ordinary citizens such as Ms. SAPATU appreciate his policies.

He has commended Ms. SAPATU for spreading positivity following the election period, which has been characterised by hate speech.

President HICHILEMA says he is humbled by the love and admiration shown by ordinary citizens.

He says Government works hard to deliver development and improve the lives of the people.

President HICHILEMA says he and his family will support Ms. SAPATU to undertake a project, which will be decided upon after consultations with her.

President HICHILEMA has also thanked other well-wishers who came forward to assist Ms. SAPATU.

And President HICHILEMA also met JEREMIAH TEMBO, who cycled from LUSANGAZI District to Lusaka in two-and-a-half days to appreciate the President for his work.

President HICHILEMA thanked Mr. TEMBO for his unwavering dedication and love for the country.

And Ms. SAPATU says she left Mwinilunga on August 13, 2026, around 08 hours, immediately after voting.

Ms. SAPATU says she embarked on the journey even before the election result was announced as she was confident President HICHILEMA would win because of his good leadership.

She says she was moved to undertake the 18-day journey to personally appreciate President HICHILEMA for his dedication, leadership and hard work.

Ms. SAPATU says she has seven children who are all in school, which she attributes to the free education policy under President HICHILEMA.

She says women in her area are also thankful to President HICHILEMA for looking out for their welfare.

Ms. SAPATU says the women are grateful to the President.

And Mr. TEMBO says he has five children who are all in school due to the free education policy.

He says his aged mother is also benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer programme.

Mr. TEMBO says President HICHILEMA has no segregation and has delivered development to people across the country.

President HICHILEMA also took time to serve a meal to the two citizens who travelled from different parts of the country to meet him.

And President HICHILEMA has commended the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation-ZNBC- for telling Ms. SAPATU’s story.

And one of the well-wishers, GEORGE MTONGA, thanked the two citizens for believing in President HICHILEMA.

Mr. MTONGA says people like Ms. SAPATU and Mr. TEMBO motivate Government to continue working hard.
