Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE is in New York, United States of America, to participate in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly – UNGA 81.
Mr. HAIMBE is representing President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA at the session.
Other members of the Zambian delegation include Minister of Health Professor ROMA CHILENGI, and senior Government officials.
The session, running from 22nd to 28th September 2026, is being held under the theme: “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
The engagement provides Zambia an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to peace, democracy and stability, following the recent General Elections.
Central to Zambia’s participation is the advancement of the Grow Zambia Agenda, including mobilising technical assistance, development finance and strategic investment, as well as aligning United Nations programmes with national priorities.
The country will also seek support for a National Architecture for Peace, establish diplomatic relations and strengthen its influence within the multilateral system.
This includes its candidature for election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027 to 2029 term.
Mr. HAIMBE will reaffirm Zambia’s commitment to constitutionalism, the rule of law, fundamental freedoms and the protection of human rights.
He will also deliver Zambia’s National Statement on behalf of President HICHILEMA during the High-Level General Debate on 28th September 2026.
The Zambian delegation will further participate in the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group – CMAG, where Zambia is Deputy Chair, as well as meetings of the Group of 77 and China.
The delegation is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several countries and other partners while advancing Zambia’s priorities under the Pact for the Future, Global Digital Compact and the Seville Commitment.
