Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE has called for improved revenue collection through greater efficiency, compliance and enforcement.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says Zambia must maximise existing tax and non-tax revenue streams while addressing leakages caused by weak compliance, smuggling, tax avoidance and tax evasion.
He was speaking this afternoon during a strategic visioning and brainstorming session with management and staff at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE has also called for stronger accountability and greater public awareness of the importance of obtaining receipts, saying revenue due to the State must be collected systematically and efficiently.
He has urged public institutions to support tax collection and compliance, while calling for stronger enforcement to curb smuggling and other forms of revenue leakage.
The strategic visioning sessions are aimed at aligning the Ministry’s priorities with the Government’s broader Grow Zambia Agenda, which includes economic growth, investment, job creation and improved delivery of public services.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by the Office of the Secretary to the Treasury.
