Government has reiterated that fiscal discipline will remain central to its agenda of consolidating gains from economic stabilisation and transitioning the country towards stronger and more inclusive growth under the GROW Zambia agenda.
The Ministry of Finance and National Planning says it will continue to manage budget execution prudently while prioritising public services, vulnerable households, government operations, and productive infrastructure.
The Ministry has called on businesses, professional bodies, civil society, development partners and citizens to participate in consultations for the 2027–2031 Medium‑Term Revenue Strategy, describing the process as an opportunity to build a fairer, more predictable and growth‑supportive revenue system.
Meanwhile, government released K16.1 billion in August 2026 to finance public service delivery, debt obligations, social protection programmes, and infrastructure development.
Of this amount K7.6 billion went towards debt servicing and dismantling arrears, including K6.5 billion for domestic debt service, K253 million for external debt service, and K814 million for arrears clearance.
K4.1 billion covered the Public Service wage bill and related obligations.
K1.8 billion financed government programmes and operations, including K249.8 million for the Electoral Commission of Zambia to support the 2026 General Elections, K200 million for compensation and awards, and K130 million for procurement of drugs and medical equipment.
K1.7 billion was released for transfers, subsidies and social benefits.
K896.4 million supported capital expenditure and infrastructure programmes, with K598.4 million allocated to road infrastructure and K298 million directed to other projects nationwide.
The Ministry stressed that timely debt servicing and arrears clearance are critical to strengthening fiscal credibility, improving liquidity, and maintaining confidence in the management of public resources. It added that continued investment in productive infrastructure is vital to improving connectivity, productivity, investment, and private‑sector activity.
